Studio Ponoc Presents Film Anthology Project



The official website of Studio Ponoc has announced a film anthology project titled Ponoc Tanpen Gekijou, comprising of short stories directed by Studio Ghibli's staff members. The first short film, Chiisana Eiyuu: Kani to Tamago to Toumei Ningen, will be screened in Japanese theaters on August 24.

Centering on the theme "Tales of modest heroes of our times," one of the three stories in the film with be a 15-minute fantasy-adventure between two crab siblings titled Kanini to Kanino (Kanini & Kanino), directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi (Mary to Majo no Hana). Samurai Egg (Life Ain’t Gonna Lose) is another 15-minute short that tells the human drama surrounding a mother and her son, and will be helmed by director Yoshiyuki Momose (Ghiblies). Toumei Ningen (Invisible) will be a "spectacular action" that will run for 14 minutes about an invisible human and will be directed by Akihiko Yamashita (Omoide no Marnie assistant animation director). Yoshiaki Nishimura (Kaguya-hime no Monogatari) will be producing all shorts of the film.

Japanese actor Joe Odagiri, actress Machiko Ono, dancer Min Tanaka, DJ Yasutaka Nakata, and composer Takatsugu Muramatsu will be voicing the characters of the film.
