This year's 20th issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shounen Jump announced a live-action movie adaptation of Naoshi Komi's Nisekoi (Nisekoi: False Love) manga on Monday. The movie is scheduled to open in Japanese theaters this December.
Komi launched the romantic comedy manga as a one-shot in Shueisha's seasonal Shounen Jump NEXT! magazine in January 2011, which began serialization in Weekly Shounen Jump as a full-fledged series in November of that year. The manga reached its completion in August 2016, compiling a total of 25 volumes. Nisekoi has over 10 million copies in print as of July 2016.
Taishi Tsutsui drew the four-volume Magical Pâtissière Kosaki-chan!! spin-off manga in Shounen Jump+ from December 2014 to September 2016. A side-story novel by Hajime Tanaka has been published since June 2013. Shueisha released the novel's third volume in April 2015.
Studio Shaft adapted the manga into two TV anime seasons: the first airing in Winter 2014 for 20 episodes and the 12-episode sequel in Spring 2015. The 14th, 16th, 17th, and 21st compiled manga volumes also bundled OVA episodes between October 2014 and January 2016.
Viz Media licensed the manga in English under its Shounen Jump imprint and published the 25th and last volume on January 2. Aniplex of America licensed the anime series for North American distribution and released the first season on four Blu-ray volumes from November 2014 to May 2015 and the second season in two Blu-ray volumes in June and August 2016.
