Sixth 'GeGeGe no Kitarou' Anime Series Gets Movie


Toei Animation announced during the Manga Ookoku Tottori Seitan 99-nen Mizuki Shigeru Seitansai event on Sunday that the sixth anime series based on Shigeru Mizuki's GeGeGe no Kitarou manga will receive an anime movie titled Kitarou Tanjou: Gegege no Nazo. The event also revealed a teaser visual (pictured).

The anime film is one of four projects commemorating Mizuki's 100th year birthday anniversary. Mizuki died in 2015 from heart failure at the age of 93.

Synopsis
Kitarou's birth is something everyone seems to know but not understand. This movie will approach the hidden mystery of Kitarou's birth.

Mizuki began the supernatural manga under the title Hakaba Kitaro (Graveyard Kitaro) and published 15 volumes between 1959 and 1964. Retitled as GeGeGe no Kitarou, the manga ran in Weekly Shounen Jump from 1965 to 1986. Drawn & Quarterly has been publishing the manga in English since May 2016.

Toei Animation produced multiple television anime adaptations and anime movies over the years. The sixth and latest installment in the franchise aired in Spring 2018 for 97 episodes.

Miyuki Sawashiro (Tokyo Magnitude 8.0) and Masako Nozawa (Ginga Tetsudou 999), who starred in the 2018 GeGeGe no Kitarou anime as Kitarou and Medama Oyaji, respectively, will reprise their roles in the film.
