Illustrator loundraw's 'Summer Ghost' Anime Film Premieres in 2021

Avex Digital opened an official website for a short anime film by illustrator loundraw on Friday, revealing a teaser visual (pictured) and a concept video. The anime film, titled Summer Ghost, was born from an illustration loundraw posted in 2018 and planned as part of his previously announced Project Common. Summer Ghost marks his directorial debut and will premiere in 2021.

The video is a one-minute concept animation titled Ichiban Chikakute Tooi Hoshi (The Nearest Distant Star) that exists within the same world as Summer Ghost. loundraw was in charge of all aspects of the anime at Flat Studio, and produced it in collaboration with education company Z-Kai.

In the concept anime, Nao Touyama (Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru.) plays Kaori, a high school student in an astronomy club who aims to be accepted to her dream university. Lynn (Bokutachi wa Benkyou ga Dekinai) plays her childhood friend Yuki, who is also a member of the astronomy club.

The three protagonists depicted in the teaser visual for Summer Ghost—high school students Tomoya Sugisaki, Aoi Harukawa, and Ryo Kobayashi—make cameos in the concept anime. The theme song, "Koko ni Iru yo," was composed and performed by Junko Iwao with lyrics by Hiroko Taniyama.
