Second Season of 'Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai' Announced

A second anime season for Aka Akasaka's Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunousen (Kaguya-sama: Love is War) manga was announced at the Yanjan Bunka Matsuri event on Saturday. The new season will air under the title Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai? Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunousen. The official website also revealed a teaser visual (pictured) and announcement promo.

Synopsis
At the renowned Shuchiin Academy, Miyuki Shirogane and Kaguya Shinomiya are the student body's top representatives. Ranked the top student in the nation and respected by peers and mentors alike, Miyuki serves as the student council president. Alongside him, the vice president Kaguya—eldest daughter of the wealthy Shinomiya family—excels in every field imaginable. They are the envy of the entire student body, regarded as the perfect couple.

However, despite both having already developed feelings for the other, neither are willing to admit them. The first to confess loses, will be looked down upon, and will be considered the lesser. With their honor and pride at stake, Miyuki and Kaguya are both equally determined to be the one to emerge victorious on the battlefield of love! [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Returning staff members for the second season include director Shinichi Omata (Mamoru Hatakeyama), series composer Yasuhiro Nakanishi, character designer Yuuko Yahiro, music composer Kei Haneoka, and animation studio A-1 Pictures. The four lead cast members will also reprise their roles.

Akasaka launched the manga in Miracle Jump magazine in May 2015, which subsequently switched to Young Jump in March 2016. Shueisha published the 16th volume on September 19. Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai has a cumulative 8 million copies of its compiled volumes in circulation.

A-1 Pictures produced the first anime season in Winter 2019, roughly adapting the first five volumes. Aniplex of America licensed the anime and streamed it on Crunchyroll, Funimation, and Hulu. VIZ Media licensed the main series in English under its Shonen Jump imprint in February 2018 and published the tenth volume on September 3. The 11th volume is scheduled for a November 5 release.

Shinta Sakayama (Hitsugi no Chaika) launched the Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Doujin-ban spin-off in June 2018. A second spin-off by G3 Ida, Kaguya-sama wo Kataritai, began its serialization in Young Jump last July. Shueisha shipped the second and first volume of the spin-offs on March 19, respectively.

A live-action film adaptation opened in Japan on September 6, starring Shou Hirano (Ninjani Sanjo! Mirai e no Tatakai) as Miyuki Shirogane and Kanna Hashimoto (Gintama) as Kaguya Shinomiya.

Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai ranked first in the Comics category at the 3rd Tsugi ni Kuru Manga Taisho in August 2017, a joint award by Kadokawa's Da Vinci literature magazine and streaming platform Niconico.
