TV Anime Adaptation of 'Kitsutsuki Tantei-Dokoro' Green-lit

It was announced at the Kimikoe Project stage event at this year's AnimeJapan that Kei Ii's mystery detective novel Kitsutsuki Tantei-Dokoro (Woodpecker Detective's Office) will have a TV anime adaptation. The series is scheduled to premiere in Spring 2020 via Tokyo MX, BS Fuji, and CS Family Gekijou, among others. Kenjirou Tsuda, Rikiya Hayashi (2nd KimiKoe audition Grand Prix winner), and Hayato Furusawa (2nd KimiKoe audition Grand Prix runner-up) will be voicing the anime's unannounced characters.

Story
A ghost was seen on the 12th floor of the Asakusa Juunikai building. A newspaper article featuring the sighting brought together Takuboku Ishikawa, who runs a private detective agency to support his family, and his assistant Kyosuke Kindaichi to solve the case.

Staff
Chief Director: Shinpei Ezaki (Hanebado!)
Series Composition: Taku Kishimoto (Haikyuu!! series)
Producer: Tohokushinsha Film Corporation, LIDENFILMS

The fictional characters are inspired by real-life figures: Takuboku Ishikawa is a famous Japanese poet, while Kyosuke Kindaichi is a famous Japanese linguist. The novel is set during the Meiji era. It was first published by Tokyo Sogensha in 1999.

The KimiKoe project is an initiative to audition aspiring voice actors and actresses with the winners to star in an anime series. The first audition, which had 3,000 applicants, was for female voice actresses. The six winners from that audition formed the "Now on Air" unit who starred in the 2017 Kimi no Koe wo Todoketai anime film. The second audition was announced at AnimeJapan last year, and it was for male voice actors.
