Live-Action Adaptation of 'Gintama' Announced for 2017


The cover of this year's 31st issue of Weekly Shounen Jump magazine, to be released on July 4, has announced that the parody comedy manga Gintama will be getting a live-action movie slated for 2017. Yuuichi Fukuda will be directing and writing the script of the movie under Warner Bros. Entertainment, who also produced the animated Gintama films in 2010 and 2013. Actor Shun Oguri will play the role of the main character, Gintoki Sakata.

The Gintama series, which has announced that it will enter its final arc by this year, was created by Hideaki Sorachi and began serialization in December 2003. The series has received various anime adaptation, with the most recent TV series ending in March of this year. Gintama OVAs were announced to be bundled with the 65th and 66th manga volumes this year.
