Capcom has announced at Tokyo Game Show 2015 that a TV anime adaptation of the visual novel series Gyakuten Saiban, also known by its English title Ace Attorney, has been green-lit. The anime will premiere in Spring 2016 on Japan's terrestrial networks. Previously, the franchise has also received a live-action film, a stage play, a musical, and a manga adaptation.
Developed by Capcom, the games combine elements of mystery, thriller, and adventure. They initially began as a trilogy of comedic legal thrillers created by Shu Takumi and released for Nintendo's Game Boy Advance in Japan between 2001 and 2004. They were ported to the Nintendo DS between 2005 and 2007 and released internationally.
The games follow the exploits of a passionate rookie defense attorney named Ryuuichi Naruhodou (Phoenix Wright in English versions) who fights for his clients in a courtroom setting loosely resembling that of the Japanese legal system, using investigative skills, cross-examinations, and evidence.
