The Twitter account of Comic Blade magazine announced that Kozue Amano's manga series Amanchu! will be adapted into a TV anime in Summer 2016. The series has been serialized since the January 2009 issue of the magazine, and there are nine volumes of the manga in print.
The official website of Amano's Aria manga series also published commentary by the anime's production staff in conjunction with the announcement of the adaptation. Director Kenichi Kasai admits that scuba diving, the theme of the manga, is an unknown subject to him, but he looks forward to studying it more closely. Kasai also indicated that Japan's Izu Peninsula will be used as the model location for the festival.
Synopsis
Hikari Kohinata is a cheerful 15-year-old girl who lives near the ocean, and she spends much of her time diving as a result. On her first day of high school, she meets a teacher who also likes scuba diving. There's also the 16-year-old classmate, Futaba, who gets dragged along in Hikari's maelstrom as soon as they meet at school. Most of the manga so far details the relationship between the two girls, which quickly seems to move into romantic two-girl friendship-territory.
