As of October 1, 2014, anime publisher Kadokawa and telecommunications provider Dwango (provider of video portal Nico Nico Douga) officially merged into one entity—Kadokawa Dwango Corp. The shares of the new company were launched today.
Former Kadokawa advisor Tatsuo Sato (not to be confused with the anime director) has been appointed president of the new company while Nobuo Kawakami (chairman of Dwango) has assumed the role of chairman. The merger aims to consolidate the companies' positions in their respective markets as well as break new ground and play off each others' strengths.
